CMLL World Tag Team Tournament, 2000
On 2000.06.16, Negro Casas vacated the CMLL World Tag Team Championship in order to "give others a chance at the titles." Santo's lack of availalibty may have also played into the titles being vacated.
CMLL held a three week, 16 team tournament for the vacant championships, starting 2000.06.23. Like all three week tournaments, Block A took place on the first week (06.23) and Block B took place the next week (06.30). The final was held over for a 08.04 PPV show.

The tournament final did not actually take place. On the date of the final, Emilio Charles was injured and unable to compete. CMLL ruled that an instant disqualification, and since championships can change hands on a disqualification, Rey and Ultimo the championship. As a make up, they faced, and defeated, Mr. Niebla and Villano IV.
On 2000.08.18, Emilio Charles Jr. and Mr. Niebla got a title shot, but lost.
