Wrestling Observer Hall Of Fame Member

NJPW wrestler who's made a couple trips to CMLL. In 2006, he and Shinsuke Nakamura defended the IWGP Tag Team Championship against Rey Bucanero & Olimpico, and were unable to win the CMLL World Tag Team Championship from Bucanero and Ultimo Guerrero. In 2010, Tanahashi teamed with Taichi & Okumura to win the CMLL World Trios Championship, losing it a couple of weeks later to La Mascara, Mascara Dorada and La Sombra.

Tanahashi is billed and treated like a big star from Japan, but he's never been in Mexico long enough to establish his own rivalries. He's usually a rudo in CMLL's usual "us against the outsiders" stories. The CMLL/NJPW relationship seems strong, so he'll likely be back in Mexico again.
