Biography

Eiji Ezaki was born on November 29, 1968 in Kumamoto, Yatsushiro Japan. He began watching wrestling at the age of seven His favorite wrestlers were Mil Mascaras and Tiger Mask. His grandfather was a huge wrestling fan and he brought him to New Japan Pro Wrestling Shows.

He trained in Judo in Yatsushiro East High School where he earned a black belt. In 1987, Ezaki attended Kumamoto Gakuen University and begin weight training at the college gym. He would meet his friend and rival Masashi Honda (Mr. Gannosuke) both shared the same love for wrestling. Honda eventually convince Ezaki to begin training for wrestling.

Both Ezaki and Honda would begin participating in a training promotion called Syodai Wrestling Association. It would to allow young men who were interested in wrestling to wrestle in front of a crowd and learn about how to work matches.

In 1991, Honda invited Ezaki to train at FMW. Despite Ezaki's parents opposition he was helped supported by his friends to join Honda to do his tryout at FMW Dojo. Both Ezaki and Honda entered the FMW Dojo along with 40 other people with Tarzan Goto assigned as their trainer. Besides the physical training Tarzan Goto also interviewed all the aspirants. Only Masashi Honda and Eiji Ezaki were officially accepted in the FMW Dojo.

Ezakis's debut in FMW was on May 5, 1991, where he teamed up with Amigo Ultra to defeat Akihito Ichihara and Yukihido Ueno. His debut was by accident due to Amigo Ultra's partner injury. Amigo Ultra got the pin over Ueno.

September 27, 1993 FMW decided for Ezaki to be sent to Mexico. Ezaki's last match was against Masato Tanaka with Ezaki getting the win after delivering a Moonsault in the opening match of the show. Onita and Ezaki very emotional afterwards as Onita wanted Ezaki to learn the lucha libre style.

Ezaki was sent to Tijuana to train under Rey Mysterio Sr.'s WWA promotion which had been partners with FMW. Ezaki would have to virtually start all over. The training at Tijuana was completely different than the FMW Dojo as the FMW Dojo focused on squats, push ups, and pulls up in Tijuana he had to learn to throwing his body all over the place (tumbling) and flying in and out of the ring. Ezaki would meet a young 18 year old Oscar Gutierrez who would become known as Rey Mysterio, Jr. while training with his uncle. He adopted the name of Hayabusa which means "The bird that never dies".

In Mexico he wrestled for the World Wrestling Association, Asistencia Asesoría y Administración, and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. He returned to Japan to wrestle Jushin Thunder Liger in a well received first round match during the Super J Cup tournament.

Between January 1995 and April 1995, Ezaki wrestled in the United States, mainly in the Florida area.

Upon his return to FMW in May 1995, Hayabusa wrestled in deathmatches involving barbed wire and explosives. Hayabusa's rivals included his friend Mr. Gannosuke, Mike "The Gladiator" Awesome, and Atsushi Onita, and he frequently teamed with Jinsei Shinzaki (Hakushi).

Hayabusa wrestled one match in Extreme Championship Wrestling at Heatwave in 1998. He and Jinsei Shinzaki challenged Rob Van Dam and Sabu for the promotion's World Tag Team Championship in a losing effort.

Hayabusa's career ended in 2001 due to landing on his neck during a moonsault. Hayabusa was left paralyzed due to the injury. He's respected throughout the industry for his career and its unfortunate end.

Hayabusa was considered the heart and soul of FMW, and after his departure, the company slowly folded.

After his retirement Ezaki pursued a career as a singer. He promoted a new wrestling company called WMF (Wrestlings Marvelous Future). The name was chosen since, spelled backwards, the initials are FMW as an homage. He traveled to a few WWE events where he met old friends such as Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and Rey Mysterio backstage.

Ezaki was active in working with the Dragon Gate promotion. When asked about his career in an interview, Ezaki said that one never knows what the chances are of a return to the ring.

On 3 April 2015, Hayabusa was part of a press conference announcing the return of FMW. He served as the executive producer of the promotion.

In 2015, Ezaki regained the use of his legs and could stand on his own and walk with a cane.

Ezaki died of a subarachnoid hemorrhage on 3 March 2016, at age 47.
