Bio

Bill Martinez is a retired Colombian professional wrestler, Jiu Jitsu teacher, former boxer and Greco-Roman wrestler. He is known under the ring name El Tigre Colombiano.

Early Life

His parents Salomon Martinez Quintero and Ana Patino met at the Colombian Consulate in New York and they married in that city. He was born on March 6, 1930 in New York City. At the age of 3, his parents went back to Colombia. They lived in Barranquilla where he was baptized. In order to avoid more paperwork they said he was born in Barranquilla. At the age of 15 he got his Identification Card as Colombian citizen.

Career

In Bill's professional wrestling career, Bill wrestled in many countries in the late 40's and 50's. He visited South America, Africa and Europe. Bill held many wrestling titles in Germany, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico & Colombia. Martinez retired from professional wrestling in the late 80's. Martinez lives in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and teaches Martial Arts.

In 1960 he traved to Europe and after three months there, he won the World Championship in Munchen, Germany defeating the Yugoslavian Michael Ayovíj. In that match his opponent broke his retina. He retired from professinal wrestling in 1985, because the good promoters were gone and the promotions were in charge of mediocre wrestlers. For these reasons, professional wrestling was no longer profitable for him.

With his vast knowledge in the real wrestling from the golden age, he competed in Mixed Martial Arts. He competed in three fight getting to wins and one loss. His license was revoked due to his age. However, he kept praticing with the best MMA exponents in USA. He holds a black belt 10th dan in MMA.

He traved 43 countries. He lived in Europe for 25 years, 2 years in Africa, and 6 months in the Near East, Middle East, and Far East.
