On January 28, 2013, the UWE's facebook announced due to Ray Mendoza Jr.'s upcoming retirement, the UWE World Tag Team Championship would be vacated. The Villano brothers had not defended the championship in the year and a half since winning them; the bigger news is the titles were actually meant to still be active.
Four teams were announced for a tournament to decide new champions, to take place February 10th in Arena Lopez Mateos
- Los Mexitosos: Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy, the GHC Junior Tag Team Champions
- Joe Lider & Daga
- Los Compadres: Iron Love & Chucho El Roto, the AULL Tag Team Champions
- Compares Extremos: Violento Jack & Aeroboy
Three of the team were established pairs. The only exception, Joe Lider and Daga, are in opposing groups in AAA, though not directly feuding.
