In November of 2002, CMLL held a three week, sixteen team tournament to decide the number one contenders for the CMLL World Trios Championship. The two blocks of the tournament took place 2002.11.01 and 11.08, and the final took place 11.15, all in Arena Mexico.

Dr. Wagner Jr., Black Tiger, and Apolo Dantes got their championship on 2002.11.22 in Arena Mexico. Atlantis, Mr. Niebla and Black Warrior defeated them to keep the trios titles.
