Biography
Hector Garza is a top rudo for CMLL who seems to be the second-in-charge man of Perros del Mal.
Garza began his career in CMLL as a young highflying tecnico. He was one of the wrestlers who left for AAA and then WCW (more notables for injuries than success.) When he returned to Mexico, Garza found his way back to AAA.
Hector Garza made a surprise jump to CMLL on June 25, 2004, as it appeared to be a money issue more than anything else. Garza immediately allied himself with Perro Aguayo Jr., and played a role in Perro turning rudo and forming Perros del Mal. Garza plays the set up man in the Perros, building up opponents to face Perro Aguayo Jr., with enough credibility to make it mean something. In 2005, Garza lost his hair in a match with Universo 2000, which built anticipation for the Perro/Universo match. In 2006, Garza lost in a title match to Ultimo Guerrero, which was a major match in the Perros del Mal/Guerreros del Infierino rivalry. Garza has also beaten Pierroth for his hair, when Pierroth tried and failed a coup in Perros del Mal. All the members turned on him, and not even a dozen more Pierroths could save him.
Garza is a very charismatic wrestler. He's got a strong following of female fans. When he wants to, he can be a good wrestler. Other times, he can be one more relying on shtick. His aerial maneuvers - the moonsault and the tornillo (both in the ring and out) are still very impressive.
Hector is one of the current CMLL Trios Champions, but the reign was almost immediatly forgotten and the trio has since split.
In 2004, while still a part of AAA, Garza was among those on-loan to U.S. promotion TNA as part of Team Mexico. Once the Team X-Division concept was abandoned (as an ongoing concept), Garza remained with the promotion as a singles competitor in the mid-card. Hector was in the midst of receiving a push and being set up for a high profile match against Scott Hall, but an arrest for Steroid Possession unfortunately derailed Garza's future with TNA.
2005 Arrest for Steroid Possession
On January 5, 2005, Hector Garza was arrested for steroid possession in Houston, on the way to a TNA taping. Officers found the drugs Deca-Durabolin [1] (an anabolic steroid) and Primobolan [2] (used between steroid cycles). Those drugs are legal in Mexico, but not in the United States. Garza claimed (and still maintains) he had a legal prescription for the drugs, and later showed it to Mexican magazines as proof of his innocence.
Garza was held on $1000 bail, but opted not to pay on fears he'd be deported to Mexico and not be permitted to return. On January 12, Garza plead guilty to possession of steroids and was sentenced to 15 days in jail. He had already served half that time waiting for the court date, and it's unclear when/if he served the rest. It's also unclear if he has been prohibited from returning the US. Garza has not returned to the US since his arrest, but could be by choice.
Garza would later wear (and sell) t-shirts with the phrase "Si Pepe El Toro es Inocente, Hector Garza Tambien!" (translation: "If Pepe el Toro [3] is innocent, Hector Garza is also".)
