The full format, matches and even participants in the tournament are unknown. It appears to have an unusual format: 2v2 matches were billed as part of the tournament. Partners may have changed during the tournament.  
The tournament was held as a tag team tournament, where the winning team would face off in the final for the vacant title. Wrestlers from [[EMLL]] and [[Promociones Mora]] were included, though all matches appear to have been held on Friday night EMLL shows. The venue switched between Arena Mexico and Arena Coliseo through the tournament.

Lizmark gave up the Mexican National Middleweight Championship after winning the NWA World Middleweight Championship on June 3, 1983. EMLL held a tournament to decide the new champion.

The tournament was held as a tag team tournament, where the winning team would face off in the final for the vacant title.
