This championship was essentially restarted; the previous champion passed away in 1941 and the title was forgotten. It was the first 'new' championship since [[Promociones Mora]] started as its own group. The Mexico City commission made a point of including wrestlers from various promotions big and small in the tournament; eventually winner Voltio Negro was representing the [[Fraternidad del Santo]] group.

A tournament was held for the (long) vacant Mexican National Featherweight Championship in 1980. Only the final three matches are known; it's likely more rounds were held.

This championship was essentially restarted; the previous champion passed away in 1941 and the title was forgotten. It was the first 'new' championship since Promociones Mora started as its own group.
