Notes
Amapola is Dark Angel's foil. It's gotten the biggest push of her career, and it's also cost her mask.
Before CMLL started a full time women's division, and in it's early days, Amapola seemed to be as a solid->quite good working ruda, one who could hold up her end of the match but wasn't going to be focus of it. She executed her role well, and when the division got reshuffled based on departures, responses and performances, Amapola was suddenly the lead ruda.
From there on, Amapola's been Dark Angel; they were tag team matches in their first match in Arena Mexico, and Amapola feuded with her in anger/resentment for Dark turning tecnica. This was eventually built up to a hair versus mask match. The company was strongly behind Dark Angel, and it wasn't a surprise when Amapola lost her mask.
A mild surprise was Amapola's behavior after losing her mask. A luchador will typically allow all the fans (and the magazines) to get a good look at his/her face. Amapola pulled her mask off and immediately turned away from the fans and the cameras, walking quickly to the backstage area and never allowing most of the fans to see her face. She was brought back to Arena Mexico the following week, and the fans finally got to see her then, and gave a explanation/apology on that week's Guerreros del Ring show, but was left off CMLL Mexico City cards for the following weeks, perhaps as punishment.
With the loss of her mask, Amapola still has a grudge against Dark Angel, but has slipped in standing among the CMLL rudas, with Hiroka's title victory probably elevating her to top in the group. Amapola is still a good traditional hard working ruda and likely has more successful days to come.
Amapola carries around the IWRG Women's Championship, but it's a mystery as to how she got it. It wasn't on an IWRG card in Naucalpan, and it's unclear if they recognize her as champion. Ayako Hamada was the last listed champion, and while it's possible (and likely) there was some title change in Japan, no one's been able to find out when or where it happened. She's never defended the championship, but brings it with her to most matches.
