Ray Plata had a long time in the business and knew that El Sica needed a name and costume change if he wanted to succeed in Mexico City. His work was improving very well, as the once skinny and clueless kid with no sense of timing was now a good and polished worker. But still, that name he had, was not the one of a star.
In 1968, [Valente] Pérez came up with a new character that had money written all over it. He thought about an ultimate heel nemesis for Mil Mascaras, and what better for that than the subject of darkness? He had even designed the perfect mask for this wrestler - a faceless hood. That's how Tinieblas was born, but in the end, he made his debut (and spent the rest of his career) as a tecnico and not as a rudo. In his first match, he teamed with Dixon and Shadow to face Dr. Wagner, El Solitario and Renato Torres in the main event of the August 20, 1971 Arena Mexico card.

The magic touch Roberto needed was getting named "[[El Solitario]]" (The Lonely One), a name based on the famous comic and TV series "El Llanero Solitario" (Lone Ranger). In fact he didn't call himself El Llanero Solitario to avoid copyright infringement problems. He then adopted his classic golden/black tights and his golden mask with a fringe around the eyes representing Lone Ranger's "antifaz" mask. Solitario was one of the first wrestlers to use a mask with a wide open mouth, which is a popular design now used by people like Atlantis, Octagon and Ultimo Guerrero among others.
In a way, Tinieblas can be seen as a disappointment, because even though he has had a very respectful career and nobody can deny that he is a legend, it was thought that through the movies he'd eventually reach the legendary status of El Santo and Blue Demon just like Mil Mascaras did.

In a way, Tinieblas can be seen as a disappointment, because even though he has had a very respectful career and nobody can deny that he is a legend, it was thought that through the movies he'd eventually reach the legendary status of El Santo and Blue Demon just like Mil Mascaras did.

Articles Worth Reading

Mistico vs Ultimo Guerrero, 02/25/05: At the beginning of 2005, Mistico began getting bigger and bigger matches in order to prove himself as someone who could potentially lead CMLL, and Lucha Libre into the next generation. Mistico feuded with Averno for the NWA Middleweight championship, with two title matches (1/30/05 Guadalajara, and 2/11/05 Arena Mexico, both being talked about as MOTYC as well), before eventually winning the title on 2/11/05. Mistico's next big feud would come in the form of the leader of the top rudo force in CMLL, the GDI: Ultimo Guerrero.

Categories of Articles

Wrestlers are sorted into those born in Mexico, and those born elsewhere, broken down even more by various individual countries. There's also bio listings for Mini Estrellas, Female Wrestlers and Referees.

More categories will be added soon, as well as a table of contents. If there's someone or something you're looking for but just can't seem to find, try the search box on the left side.

I WANT TO HELP!

If you want to help adding profiles, but you don't feel like you have the proper lucha knowledge, there's a huge list of foreign wrestlers (male or female) wanted to be added at: To do

More articles! More bios! Things I'm not even thinking about right now! A Task List is now up for you to openly mock as nothing gets accomplished.

Anyone who signs up for an account is free to comment, add, and edit. People who come to destroy will be swiftly removed. A specfic Rules list is coming, but in general, don't be a moron.

  3. For help with wiki syntax and other fun editing things, you can try the Wiki Confusion page, although if I haven't already done it myself at this point, I'm probably going to just be checking the [Wiki Handbook] and trying to figure out, so you may just skip me.

If you're completely confused, the admins can be contacted @ luchawiki at thecubsfan dot com - well, I can. I should work on that. (It's ON THE LIST.)
