Biography

Born in Veracruz, after being trained by his father Aries, he started wrestling at the age of 15. His first payoff was a drink and a sandwich, and his first wrestling name was White Demon.

While wrestling around the area, Brazo de Oro saw him and brought him to Mexico City where he joined the "Grupo Cibernetico", a union of young wrestlers (including Zumbido, Tony Rivera, Rencor Latino, Ultimo Guerrero...) that train together every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the gym of Arena Mexico under the guidance of teachers Memo Díaz and Negro Casas.

After ten months of training under the guidance of the Grupo Cibernetico heads and Ringo Mendoza, Marvin made his EMLL debut on February 17, 1999, at Arena Coliseo, teaming with Sombra de Plata and Kid Guzman to take on Sangre Azteca, Fugaz and Enemigo Publico.

Contrary to popular belief, even though his entrance song is "Livin' La Vida Loca", he's not a Ricky Martin rip-off. Negro Casas and himself came up with the name, as his real life first name is Ricky and he's a big fan of Marvin The Martian of the Looney Toons cartoons.

He had his first Arena Mexico match on July 2 when he teamed with Sombra de Plata and defeated Fugaz and Sangre Azteca. Two weeks later, on July 16, they stole the show at the undercard of an Arena Mexico card, as after he and Sombra De Plata defeated Sangre Azteca and Fugaz in a "Lightning Match" they got an standing ovation.

Marvin made his Japanese debut on November 23, 1999 during a CMLL Japan show in Yokkaichi defeating Sangre Azteca in the second match of the night. His exciting style was so well accepted by the fans that he returned for the February 2000 tour and will most likely be featured on the upcoming Japan tours of the promotion.

On December 17 he teamed with Ringo Mendoza in the Torneo Gran Alternativa, an annual tag team tournament in which the teams are comprised of a veteran wrestler and a youngster. They went over Apolo Dantés and Alan Stone in the first round but lost in the semifinals to Felino and Tigre Blanco, who would later become the tournament winners.

Marvin won the "Rookie of the year" award in the annual CMLL internal year end polls.

On February 18, AAA had the debut in the "miniestrellas" division of a copy of him called Rocky Marvin. It was initially thought that this was Antonio Peña's way to make fun out of CMLL's future star, but it was later revealed that Rocky is Ricky's real life brother.

March is the month in which Ricky Marvin got his first TV coverage other than just a few clips and highlights. The 12th, his Tokyo Korakuen Hall February 8 match against Fugaz was shown on Samurai TV's Battle Station, and the 17th he wrestled Sangre Azteca in the opener of the live Arena Mexico lucha PPV that featured the Atlantis vs. Villano III mask vs. mask match.

On April 1 he lost to CIMA (Shiima Nobunaga) in the first round of the multi-promotional Super J Cup, 3rd stage, hosted by Michinoku Pro Wrestling. On April 9, in the final card of the two part show, he teamed with Minoru Tanaka, Masaaki Mochizuki, Tiger Mask IV and Shinya Makabe to defeat Kendo Ka Shin, Samurai, (Judo) SUWA, Masayoshi Motegi and Superboy.

On November 29, he defeated Virus at the Arena Coliseo in Acapulco to become the National Lighweight champ. During the next months, he held a feud with Virus that featured title matches in both arenas Mexico and Coliseo.

For being such a young wrestler, Marvin has got a good sense of pacing a match, brilliant execution, the ability to get any crowd into the matches and he's got a very charismatic and a marketable personality. Unless injuries (the only one he has had during his career so far has been a right knee injury) or politics keep him down, look for this kid to become one of the biggest Mexican superstars in the next years to come.
